Melissa Meltzer was raised in Rush County. Her great grandparents built the house where she grew up, and her parents still live there in Moscow. Melissa spent her elementary and middle school years at the old Milroy school and graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School. Throughout her childhood she was very involved with Moscow Christian Church.
Melissa graduated from Ball State University with her Bachelors and Master's degrees for Counseling Psychology. She settled down in Shelbyville for many years with her husband and children.
Melissa, eventually, started her own private practice in Shelbyville, where she continues to do Christian mental health counseling. She was heavily involved with her community, during her time there. She regularly attended and participated in local school board meeting, when her children were in school. She volunteered for many years at the local Pregnancy Care Center. She was on the Board of Directors for two different local homeowner's associations. She was also involved for many years with the local ministerial association in multiple officer positions, as a board member.
Melissa is a long-time member of Shelbyville Community Church and actively volunteers in many different roles. She has led multiple Bible study groups throughout the years. She has been singing with the Praise team for many years, as well as became active with the Church Security team. She is one of only 2 women who are currently on the Security team. She feels very honored to protect her church family spiritually and physically.
In 2018, her husband died of cancer. He was a very proud Marine. Eventually, she remarried and moved back to Rush County, where she got involved with the local Republican Party. She is currently Precinct Committeeman for Walker Township. She also helped bring a Live Nativity to the local Christmas on Main celebration.
Melissa has 4 children, who are all grown. Her oldest son is full-time in the Army National Guard. Her oldest daughter is married and helps children who journey through Autism. Her son-in-law is a hard-working truck driver. They have 2 sons, who Melissa loves spending time with. Youngest daughter has worked in the food industry for the last several years. Youngest son is still trying to figure out what he wants to do.
Melissa has a love of International Pickup trucks. She owns a 1958 International 3/4 ton 4x4 that she lovingly named Harvey. She also owns a 1964 International Travelette 4x4, which she named Red. Don't be surprised if you see her driving around in Red. She enjoys working on them, when she has the time.
Melissa and her husband, Tim, are currently in the process of renovating the inside and outside of their home, which continues to be a huge undertaking. For any of you who have survived doing a remodel of your home, you know what a process that can be!
