MEET MELISSA
A PASSIONATE CITIZEN WHO WANTS OUR LIBERTY AND FREEDOM PRESERVED
Melissa Meltzer was raised in Rush County. As you can see from the above picture, her family has been a part of Rush County for a long time. The picture is a receipt from 1866 from the Rush County Treasurer's office! Her great grandparents built the house where she grew up, and her parents still live there in Moscow. Melissa spent her elementary and middle school years at the old Milroy school and graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School. Throughout her childhood she was very involved with Moscow Christian Church.

Melissa graduated from Ball State University with her Bachelors and Master's degrees for Counseling Psychology. She settled down in Shelbyville for many years with her husband and children.

Melissa, eventually, started her own private practice in Shelbyville. She was heavily involved with her community, during her time there. She regularly attended and participated in local school board meetings, when her children were in school. She volunteered for many years at the local Pregnancy Care Center. She was on the Board of Directors for two different local homeowner's associations. She was also involved for many years with the local ministerial association in multiple officer positions, as a board member.

In 2018, after a 13-monthy journey, her husband died of cancer. He was a very proud Marine, so Melissa feels very strongly about Veterans and their families. She and her husband had 4 children and 2 grandsons. Her oldest son is a full-time Black Hawk mechanic in the Army National Guard.
Her oldest daughter is married and helps children who journey through Autism. Her son-in-law is a hard-working truck driver. They have 2 sons. Youngest daughter has worked in the food industry for the last several years. Youngest son is still trying to figure out what he wants to do.

Melissa, eventually, remarried and moved back to Rush County, where she got involved with the local Republican Party. Melissa is also a Precinct Committeeman for her township, has gone to the Indiana State convention representing Rush County as a Delegate, and is a small business owner of a Christian mental health counseling business. She relocated the counseling business to Rush County.
Melissa was contacted by frustrated parents about the mask mandates in their schools in 2022, so she put together a petition and, with the help of many concerned citizens, they got a significant amount of signatures in a short amount of time, and the petition was presented to the school board.
She was active in the fight against the solar project that wanted to come into the Glenwood area and has been actively attending County council meetings and County Commissioner meetings to stay aware of what is going on in our local county government.
Melissa also helped bring a Live Nativity to Rushville’s Christmas on Main.

Melissa has a love of International Pickup trucks. She owns a 1958 International 3/4 ton 4x4 that she lovingly named Harvey. She also owns a 1964 International Travelette 4x4, which she named Red. Don't be surprised if you see her driving around in Red. She enjoys working on them, when she has the time.
Melissa and her husband, Tim, are currently in the process of renovating the inside and outside of their home, which continues to be a huge undertaking. For any of you who have survived doing a remodel of your home, you know what a process that can be!
